Born in Paris in 1964, Jérôme Cohen-Olivar spent his childhood in Morocco before studying cinema at UCLA in Los Angeles, then acting direction at the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute in New York.
His cinema exists at society's margins, giving voice to the invisible, the forgotten, the silent. Between Casablanca and Paris, between legend and reality, his work explores identity, displacement, collective memory, and intimate struggles.
With Autisto (2025), he delivers his most personal film: an unfiltered look at profound autism and unconditional maternal love.
A young girl, devastated by her mother's death and in direct opposition to her father's fatalistic acceptance of the event as 'destined,' embarks on a quest for the truth behind her mother's demise. Her investigation leads her to invoke the spirit of a 17th-century Kabbalist.
